Does Carpet Gets Dirty Faster After It's Been Cleaned?
For all the years I've been in the industry, I've heard about salespeople
telling consumers not to clean the carpet because it will get dirty faster. That's TRUE, but only in certain circumstances.
Carpet gets dirty
faster after cleaning if a soil-attractive cleaning agent is used by DIY carpet cleaners or "professionals" who don't really know what they're
doing. By the way, this can be reversed by purging the
soil-attractive agent from the carpet with a plain water flushing process.
Another thing that will make carpets REALLY dirty after cleaning is if you use a WET cleaning system (like "steam" cleaning) on a carpet that is exposed to constant foot traffic. While this is very true in Las Vegas casinos or New York hotels, it also applies in really busy households where people don't take their shoes off in the foyer.
If foot traffic is allowed
on the carpet, particularly foot traffic coming from outside, and the carpet doesn't get a chance to dry, the damp carpet
will clean off the bottoms of shoe soles and cause the carpet to get dirty faster. If you insist on WET cleaning your carpet, stay off it until it is dry. This usually means a couple of DAYS.
DRY carpet cleaning methods that don't soak the carpets can be walked on in as little as one or two hours due to the minimal moisture remaining in the carpet. They dry quickly and because of that, they do not get as dirty as fast as carpets that have been wet cleaned.
